80 mile per hour winds ruin fence

Last night in Pocatello/Chubbuck we had a huge storm come through with upwards of 80 mile per hour winds. It was moving 95 mph, and blew through here and took my back fence, that borders yellowstone hwy. with it. You can click on the link to see more pictures of the damage.

I'm having trouble getting this link to work correctly, Looks like you will need to cut and paste it into your browser to see themn. The pictures are in the random pictures file.

My homeowner's insurance will cover it to be replaced. But its pretty frustrating. In the last 2 weeks Danielle's car broke down (on her birthday) $500 to fix, The engine in Tony's truck went out $6000, My window in my jeep broke $300, and now the $500 deductible on the homeowners insurance. I've about had enough. I have no idea how we're going to pay for this, I go to the accountant tomorrow, hopefully we'll get a good refund, and can have the engine replaced, my jeep fixed, and pay this new deductable. I know I sound whiney, but if we don't get a refund, I will have to take money out of my retirement savings, and pay 10% fines, and then to add insult to injury I will have to pay income tax on any I take out also, and an irs penalty for early withdrawal. Waaaaa!

Butterlies Are Free!

Except for these butterflies, which are sewn to a piece of fabric. And... those poor butterlies that are stuck with pins into some ghooolish person's bug collection. The rest of the butterflies are FREE!

By Nellie's request

Nellie requested I post this picture. This is one applique block I've done for a quilt in the makings. There will be one other block similar to this and two blocks with butterflies, dragonflies and such things as that. I'm unable to post the butterfly block Nellie, as it isn't finished yet. I will post when it is done. This block took about 4 hours to cut the pieces, and 8 hours to machine applique. It turned out very pretty, and Nellie has "spoken" for it. Just because someone speaks for something doesn't mean I have to give it to them right? Ha! We'll see, the famous Mom words.

Gambling is a sin?

They say that gambling is a sin, but I say it's going to keep me warm at night. In January I entered a "block lotto", I sent in 5 blocks (the maximum allowed), and then the drawing came.... I was one of three winners. Here's the quilt top I put together with my winnings, and five others I made. As the Dixie Chicks sing, "I'll fly away on the sin wagon". I think its bright and pretty. Just what I need to get me through until spring hits.

Nature or Nurture, the never ending question.

I'm wondering if this is genetic, or a learned behavior? I have to vote for nurture on this one. Mom was always so organized. I remember we teased her about having so much fabric. The truth is she could get away with having so much, because she was so organized. There are so many times in my life, that I am thankful Mom taught us so much about being organized. It has helped me immensely in my personal and professional life. My supervisors at work always love that I'm so organized. I'm sure these skills were learned from Mom. I'd like to make a toast :) Here's a drawer of fabric to you Mom.
Love and miss you bunches,
Colene

Farmer's Daughter Quilt

Well, Its day two of making the Farmer's Daughter Quilt. Yesterday I spent about 8 hours cutting all the peices for this quilt. Each block has 35 peices in it. Last night I was thinking, man you've really bit off more than you can chew this time. Its the old big eyes, little stomach syndrome. Guess I never grew out of it. Will try to post a picture of the one block I have done. Its not perfect. Right now I'm in production line mode. Making what is called half square triangles.
